Industrial image processing

Industrial image processing

... we can see the difference

 BV Anlage1

 Line Scan Quality Insurance Applikation

The Fränz & Jaeger provides turnkey systems for industrial image processing and recognition, based on current camera and PC technologys. Priorities are in the field of detection of large, complex, fast-moving objects (2D) and irregular surfaces (3D) in the field of quality assurance and Auto-ID. Here 2D line scan/area scan and 3D camera techniques in the visible light range and in the IR region are used.

Feasibility studies are often the upstream project to ensure success, here Fränz & Jaeger helps with many years of know-how and a network of specialist engineers.

Innovative solutions

Through years of experience in the field of complex machine vision solutions Fränz & Jaeger is involved in EU projects in the field of machine vision. The EU project PARASOL e.g. had the objective to determine the state of health of cattle automatically. Fränz & Jaeger succeeded by using 3D Time of Flight camera technology  and new algorithms to get the body condition score (BSC) and thus the state of health iin a very complex environment.

Pattern recognition was further developed by Fränz & Jaeger to a detection system, for example, for magazines. Now object classification without barcode at over 3,000 pieces per hour is possible

Quality ensurance

Typical applications are those where surfaces (plates, continues strip material, pipes, ...) are examined for errors or products in the material flow on quality guidelines. The 3D image processing is very good, for comparative measurements to detect manufacturing defects for products with irregular surfaces. Use of the IBV-object detection in the context of positioning (machines, robots, QA procedures) is another field of application.

OCR

 Bildverarbeitungstechniken

Character recognition in addresses is a classic example of an identification of parcels and packages.
A special application for a line scan camera has been realized by us in the receiving area of a great book wholesaler successfuly. Packages are shoot by the camera at a conveyor speed. Software then extracted lables and uses a fully automated (OCR) for reading the text, so that the addressee can be determined.

The new pattern recognition system of Fränz & Jaeger detects objects regardless of the rotational position and lighting.

Product tracking

Dokumentationssystem

As of 01 January 2005, food manufacturers and supplier must clearly document which paths have taken his wares. Legal bases for these goods tracking are the International Food Standard (IFS) and the EU Regulation 178/2002.

ESIBS: A system developed by F&J  to identify and image archiving of slaughter products. It shoots products with 4 video cameras. The transponder number, slaughter number, date of slaughter is automatically detected with the tattoo and synchronously recorded in the documentation system and stored redundantly.

The data are added to the electronic documentaion file for further processing and controling.

Best value

Kamerasystem

Through use of the latest camera technology and the latest IT technologies, it is possible for us to create complex image processing systems with proven low cost for our clients individually.

Our vision systems usually consist of high-performance industrial PCs, which are connected via a network (GigE, Firewire) with the cameras on site. As digital cameras linescan, area or 3D cameras come in the range of visible light and infrared are used.

The evaluation of raw data is done by an problem specific programm, which uses standard libraries Open-CV , Halcon, piccolor or self develop modules.

Barcode RFID and OCR

... Auto-ID is where logistics start

Kommisionierung 05WEB

Fränz & Jaeger designed and realized for many years Auto-ID solutions based. New methods are often the key for success.

Use cases :

OCR for intra logstics

Character recognition of addresses is a classic example of an identification of general cargo in the intralogistics sector. F & J has developed a special application for a line scan camera application that will help recognizing adresses fully automatic and virtually error-free.
This application is used, among others, in a book mail order house and processes parcels / packages at a speed of approximately 0.5m / s.

Material flow with barcode

In the material flow control F&J provides Auto-ID solutions (barcode, RFID) for identifying production or intralogistics objects and their optimized management through the production process.

Maintenance NFC

Fränz & Jaeger designs and implements Auto-ID-based solutions for optimizing the maintenance process.

The RFID labels System Revis is available for this purpose.

Supply chain management

scanndyfeder 11

Designed for the field of SCM product tracking F&J implemented individual, customized solutions for different industries and applications.

Product tracing of complex objects

Another application is the fulfillment of the documentation requirements, according to legislation on the traceability of products, eg. in the food industry, especially for complex, irregular objects and surfaces. We developed a system for identifying and archiving images of slaughter products detected with 4 video cameras. The transponder number, slaughter number, date of slaughter is automatically detected with the tattoo and synchronously recorded in the documentation system and stored redundantly. The imagedata are added to the electronic documentation file and stored for many month.

Energy monitoring

Situation

Monitoring and control mechanisms are two key components of any energy efficiency program. At present, most trades and machines are unregulated in terms of energy consumption optimization. Drives are usually only turned on and off and hardly walk in their optimal speed ranges, although they account for around 60% of energy consumption. According to ZVEI, there is a potential for energy savings through energy monitoring and control of over 30%.

Problem

Meanwhile system- and producer-dependant energy monitoring components are offered, but always include only a portion of the process and thus allow no process comprehensive energy monitoring and auditing. The data models of the individual components correspond to the respective manufacturer's standard and therefore are often not interoperable.

Objective

Consolidation of all energy consumption data in a vendor-independent data model and storage of data in a central database at the process control level, or in a separate IT system.
Correlation of energy data with time-synchronous process states of controls or units, to identify problem points in the current production and logistics process.
Provision of aggregated data to a superordinate IT system (ERP, BI, ...) via system interfaces or reporting of data for an independent energy audit, permit a detailed, targeted analysis of the energy consumption situation.

Base technology

Since 1997 Fränz & Jaeger uses the technology of decentralization and distribution of control and application functions by software agents (software services) throughout for its process automation projects. Meanwhile, this F & J concept was realized successfully and effectively with customers in networks of up to 450 control nodes with the integration of different types of mechanics.

We use a special runtime environment for the control node (IPC), that allows us to save all data and events continuously. This technology allows us not only to monitor mechanics and control, but also to measure the energy consumption. This assumes, however, a corresponding functionality in the mechanics and interfaces.

EnergyDataCollector ELOG

The F & J Energy Data Collector ELOG is a software agent, which is runing parallel to the existing functional modules (agents) in the control node (IPC) and receives energy consumption data cyclically and log it. The control node uses its own or accesses via bus systems special energy monitoring modules of the respective machine manufacturers.
The special challenge is that each manufacturer uses its own data model with diverse structures, data types, and energy levels. Therefore, always individual, customized collector agents are necessary. The manufacturer-specific data are stored up to date in a vendor independent format in the control node.
The F & J-concept includes a presentation interface, which provides the data from the energy database for an external SQL reporting tool, eg Chrystal Reports or the like.
The customer can create their own individual energy auditing reports on the basis of the reporting tool of their choice,  or have them created by F & J.

Export / interface

The F&J Energymonitor framework includes an agregator-agent which provides data for custom-specific processing. In the simplest case the energy data is provided as a CVS-File for further processing. However, there is also the possibility to form a custom extension to an interface to higher-level systems (ERP,BI, MSSQL .. ).

Consultation

F & J supports its customers in the search for possible practical energy optimization potential and possible adaptation of the process and its parameters for further optimization of energy consumption.
The procedure begins with a survey of the existing system infrastructure and eventualy existing energy monitoring components. Then a custom neutral data model and the necessary data interfaces is defined.
Based on the definitions the central database can now be generated and may need implementation of new system interfaces.
The final step is the definition and implementation of reporting capabilities and the acquisition in higher level IT systems.
